Digipak Analysis- Random Access Memories (Daft Punk)

The album cover of “Random Access Memories” by Daft Punk features two types of helmets split in half and put together to form one as well as the album title on a plain black background. Straight away we are attracted to this album cover due to its weird but exciting image- we don’t know what these helmets are used for and by whom but the colours and the style they have been presented to us entices us to look further.

The helmets don’t look like hardhats or motorbike helmets but instead give off a futuristic, sci-fi or otherwise space-related feel. The title of the album looks as if it has been signed by the artist on top of the image. This is the font used for all of the text on the album apart from the small text at the bottom by the record labels. The name of the album, “Random Access Memories” refers to the memory unit inside a computer. This is a direct link to track 10 on the album entitled “Motherboard”- another key component inside a computer system. While the title and songs relate, the front cover image is still odd and doesn't really fit in with the theme. We assume this is more of a branding image than one that related to anything specifically on the album.
